Twerking has been catching a bad rap lately in the press. First it was the dad who caught his daughters twerkin’ for YouTube and he beat them; now, these 33 San Diego high school students have been suspended for twerking on school grounds and recording themselves.
Their punishment, according to The Grio, is they are banned from prom and graduation at Scripps Ranch High School. Not only were they twerking on school property, but they did it during school hours! They did it during their sixth-period class and had students from the media class film it. Their school handbook prohibits acts of “sexual nature” that is “made by someone from or in the educational setting.”
All the students must sign the handbook that states they have a zero tolerance “for students who cause major disruptions at school or school activities.”
One Scripps Ranch HS student posted an update via Twitter, “Suspended, banned from prom, and prevented from walking at graduation all because of an awesome twerk video. I don’t understand.”On Tuesday, another student posted on Twitter, “To show support for everybody getting suspended, we should all twerk at once at lunch #freethetwerkteam.”
If you do wrong, you must face the consequences, but why are kids twerking at school? I mean, how dumb can one get? Watch the video above and the students’ reactions.
